Employment
The ACL Employment Program works in the area of assisting people with an intellectual
disability acquire a job in the regular workforce.
We also work with employers in showing them the benefits of hiring a person with a disability.
We show them ways to accommodate a person with an intellectual disability in their workplace.
Employers are realizing that people with an intellectual disability are a valuable
human resource. More and more, people with an intellectual disability are being hired
and trained to work in a variety of jobs. This greatly benefits people who want to
work and who have skills and commitment to offer employers. It is also a great benefit
to employers who need people to fill jobs in an increasingly tight labour market.
The ACL Employment Program is designed to develop and demonstrate effective ways of
providing both short and long term employment training opportunities for people who
have an intellectual disability. This is done within business sectors that have an
identified a need for entry level jobs due to:
- high turnover
- a lack of new hires in the labour market
